“I find the arguments for biblical inerrancy tiresome and unnecessary. Contrived to protect the authority of the Bible when the authority is the issue…so let’s take the battle there where it belongs.  When Paul wrote, when Luke wrote, when John wrote, when David wrote, did they proclaim their writings infallible? I think they would have blushed at the thought. On the other hand, none of them doubted being called by God to speak the truth about what they had seen.

“This is what we have: true accounts from wise men of God, who were recognized as such by other men of God. The Bible need not be considered infallible in order to recognize it as the most reliable guide in human possession. It is God’s perfect word given to us through imperfect men, and it is more trustworthy than me, than anyone I know, than any assembly of learned divines. I expect God to clarify the truth in heaven far beyond biblical revelation but, until then, we look to the book with profound respect and call it the ‘Word of God'”. – E.O.
