America gets into a twist over some of the silliest things. Trump calls out Democrats because they are letting Haitians into Ohio where they are eating neighborhood pets. Really, Donald? That’s the kind of issue you think should be brought up in a national debate? Not to be outdone, Democrats reacted with horror that Trump would dare share such a ridiculous story as fact. Maybe if they had expressed concern about the possibility of someone in America being so hungry he had to eat neighborhood pets, they would have had something to howl about. As it is, their outrage is more ridiculous than Trump’s complaint. There actually is a story behind all the political foghorns, namely that the descent of large foreign populations on America’s neighborhoods is creating issues. For the most part, these people are welcome. That’s a story. But they also strain local services and the population shift, itself, can make natives nervous. That’s a story. Our politicians seem to have a knack for making nothing into something, and making something into nothing. We pay them a lot of money to do this. – E.O.
