Unconditional love does not mean giving others what they want. It means giving them what they need. Of course, we are not perfect judges of what others need, but if it is our love we give, it must be a love that is intentional, and cannot be mere sentiment. Sentiment must be guided by wisdom. What we do not want is for our love to enable destructive habits. Instead, it is to stand in the way of them. – E.O.
