I appreciate the U.S. Postal Service and the fact that I get mail delivered to my house, but it’s clear the need for mail delivery has diminished in recent years. The request by the Regulatory Commission to raise the cost of first class mail again to 73 cents seems like a business decision aimed at running the service into the ground. Wouldn’t it make more sense to provide every other day delivery instead? This would still give recipients delivery three times a week, which seems adequate, given that most urgent business is handled electronically. – E.O.
